2026 Updates

Mid winter blues, is what we currently have here. Every Sunday/Monday has been a snow storm. Multiple school cancellations, lots of snow clearing and cleaning out the pastures to ensure the horses have safe paths to travel on. I must say, the horses consistently impress me with how sturdy footed they are, and smart they are in our mixed bag of wintery weather that is the Maritimes. We had a month of on and off again freezing rains. Making everything a horrid icy mess. And the girls just stayed put around their hay bale, and ventured when they knew it was safe. Was smart ladies! A bonus to having them be more natural and outside in all weather conditions, is they become smart to poor footing. The idea of having them safe in a barn is really nice, and I'd love a new easy to access barn facility, but we do not have that at the moment. They have always been happiest and healthiest living in the great outdoors. And much to my annoyance, they do not like to use the shelters they are given, even in the yuckiest weather. Hanoverians are a very sturdy breed.

Coming into foaling season 2026 - we are hoping to have 3 babies on the ground, although I do think Daisy slipped her Erste Sahne foal to my great disappointment. I won't be certain until a bit later on, but currently she looks too fit and trim vs the big big belly she normally has. June and July will be the busy months this year!

Early plans are to breed Ferryn early this season to Bon Esprit. Daisy, if not in foal, will be treated for any potential infection and bred to Viva Vegas. I will be retaining a filly from her from here on out as she's 16 now! Hard to believe!

Havannah will be bred to Proud James and potentially put up for sale. Ferryn will also be put up for sale too. Felda, Havannah's For Romance 3 year old, will be put into training soon. Havannah's coming 2 year old by Ferdeaux will grow up this spring and go into light groundwork training this fall.

We built a grass riding ring that is enclosed, so Aria and I will see how we make out this spring. I'm hoping my bad hip and knee will be a okay, and that I can get back into what I've sorely missed for many years. I'm also hoping if things go well to at least get some quotes for a barn too and see if we can get that started in the next year or so. It's a lot more expensive now vs pre covid times, so it's a lot to think about spending! We also have cleared another 5 acres, and will be bulldozing and fencing it, in prep for another pasture for the horses.

With the new pasture, hopeful new barn in the future, and the boys would like to build a cattle barn and starting raising some beef cows (and chickens too), we will most likely expand the breeding operation too. I've always wanted to import some mares from Europe and maybe that will happen in the next few years. We will see!! That's the update for now!
